Overview |
Description |
Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) is an ether of cellulose. It presents as a white to light creamy powder. It is formed when some of the hydroxyl groups in consecutive glucose units are hydroxypropylated. Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) is biocompatible in nature and exhibits a lower critical solution temperature (LCST). It is prepared by reacting cellulose with alkali to generate alkali cellulose, and then continuously reacting with propylene oxide. HPC is soluble in water, the solubility is lower than room temperature, and the viscosity is inversely proportional to the temperature. Hydroxypropyl cellulose is mainly used as an ingredient in pharmaceutical products, and care must be taken to avoid corrosion of process vessels during production. |
Features |
Excellent film-forming properties, the formed film is very tough, with good gloss and sufficient elasticity; Very low ash content; Good stability and dispersion; Strong surface activity |
Application |
Used as a binder in ceramics and glazes;Food industry: used as emulsifier, stabilizer, suspending agent, thickener, film-forming agent;Daily chemical industry: used for the manufacture of cosmetics such as creams, shampoos, lotions, etc.;Used as matrix material to prepare matrix sustained-release tablets, sustained-release pellets and double-layer sustained-release tablets |
