Superparamagnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4, magnetite) nanoparticles are one of the most widely studied nanomaterials today. Their superparamagnetic behavior means that they exhibit magnetic properties only in the presence of an external magnetic field. This property allows for precise control over the nanoparticles' movement and localization within biological systems, making them ideal candidates for various biomedical applications. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles are also known for their high surface area-to-volume ratio, which allows for efficient loading and release of therapeutic agents such as drugs, proteins, or nucleic acids. Additionally, their small size enables them to easily penetrate cellular membranes and reach intracellular targets, making them promising tools for targeted drug delivery and imaging of specific tissues or cells. Our superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles are soluble in toluene and have a diameter of 5 nm.
